With this release, tablet gamers can now explore what Facebook gamers have continued to enjoy in-game, including new, authentic Hunger Games stories and content such as the Map of Panem!

Since its debut in March on Facebook alongside the release of the blockbuster film in theaters, The Hunger Games Adventures has quickly become one of the top adventure games on the platform, receiving stellar reviews from critics and fans alike across its player base of millions. As tablet and mobile gaming continues its rapid growth, Funtactix and Lionsgate have provided a new way for fans of all ages to experience the game on the iPad.

In The Hunger Games Adventures, players embark on a daring adventure beyond the fence of District 12, getting a chance to explore the other districts in Panem for the very first time. By completing new chapters, fans uncover character back-stories and receive new and exclusive content from The Hunger Games franchise, not available anywhere else. Funtactix and Lionsgate continue to work together to provide the game’s audience with a steady flow of fresh, dynamic content that continues the story of The Hunger Games universe in between film releases. Recently, players were presented in game with the first-ever map of Panem depicting the actual locations of Districts 2, 11 and 12 as well as the Capitol in the post-apocalyptic world created by Collins. Lionsgate and Funtactix Announce THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES

Social Game Brings Players Into Panem Through A Vividly Detailed And Compelling Experience That Will Thrill Fans Of The Series

NEW YORK, Feb 01, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Funtactix, a worldwide developer and publisher of social games based on the world’s premiere entertainment brands, in partnership with Lionsgate LGF +0.69% , a leading global entertainment company, today announced that THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES will launch day and date with the highly anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ runaway bestselling novel on March 23rd, 2012. The perfect companion for fans of the franchise, THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES enhances the movie experience through an unprecedented journey into the fantastical world that has enthralled millions since the books first hit shelves.

THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES is an adventure-based social game where fans can explore the world of Panem – the setting for The Hunger Games trilogy. Players will explore Panem and complete missions that will take them to each of the Districts and the Capitol where they will interact with the familiar characters from the book. With each mission they complete, they will advance their own storyline within the world. As the official game of the series, THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES will be the first place fans can see the official map of Panem, and how the districts are laid out. Details for the Map of Panem will be rolled out in the game with a steady stream of chapter expansions as the game, and the world, reveals itself over time.

“As a company that wants to align itself with the most beloved entertainment properties and passionate fans in the world, joining forces with Lionsgate on The Hunger Games was a very easy decision,” said Sam Glassenberg, CEO of Funtactix. “Suzanne Collins’ amazing novel delivers an unbelievably detailed world that completely immerses the reader. Fans want to enter this world, interact with the characters and truly become a part of it. That is the magic that THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES will provide to the millions of people who love the book series and watch the movie.”

“What makes fans of The Hunger Games so amazing is the level of personal investment they have in the characters and the story,” said Lionsgate’s Joe Drake. “We chose Funtactix to create this game because they bring the level of authenticity and quality to their movie-based social games that is crucial to fans of The Hunger Games.”

The first in a series that Lionsgate is making based on the book trilogy that has become a worldwide phenomenon, The Hunger Games pairs Oscar(R) nominee Jennifer Lawrence (WINTER’S BONE, X-MEN FIRST CLASS) with Josh Hutcherson (THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT) and Liam Hemsworth (THE LAST SONG) in the key young adult roles. Rounding out the cast is a who’s who of acclaimed adult actors: Oscar(R) nominee Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Oscar(R) nominee Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Wes Bentley and Toby Jones.

The story takes place in the ruins of what was once North America, where every year the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 23.5 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following.

Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES on March 23, 2012. For more information about the film please visit:

Inside Social Games
had an interview with Funtactix CEO Sam Glassenberg on his thoughts on developing ‘The Hunger Games Adventures’ which seemed to be developed on Facebook platform.

The Hunger Games Adventures is set in Panem — the post-apocalyptic world in which the Hunger Games fiction is set. Players will be able to explore District 12 and other areas from the movie while interacting with characters from the film early in the game, a lesson Funtactix learned its work on Mission: Impossible. According to Funtactix CEO Sam Glassenberg, the company finds introducing iconic characters early helps to immerse players and significantly improves conversion rates.

While working from an extremely popular series like The Hunger Games may seem like an easy way to create a popular game, Glassenberg says it also puts the developer in a delicate position. He stresses that The Hunger Games Adventures will not be an what he calls an advergame: “Our focus on creating games based on AAA films provides us with a great community to tap into, but also creates a tremendous responsibility for us to create an experience that is authentic to the worlds that fans love,” he explains. “If a game lacks authenticity, the fans realize it in a second.”

Although the source material for The Hunger Games Adventures is a series of young adult novels, Glassenberg is confident about game’s monetization and growth prospects. “When it comes to viral growth, our team has a great deal of experience tapping into an existing fanbase to drive growth,” he says. “The fans already congregate and share around the common interest of the books [and] film. The Hunger Games Adventures is designed to be a natural extension of that phenomenon.”

Fans of The Hunger Games will also be interested to note that official map of Panem will finally be unveiled in The Hunger Games Adventures, a responsibility that Glassenberg describes as “humbling and awesome.”

“We know that our primary responsibility is to create a version of Panem that fans can jump into and explore. When we make the hardcore fans happy we know we’ve succeeded,” he says.

In another interview with, Funtactix CEO Sam Glassenberg reveals more details regarding ‘The Hunger Games Adventures’ as well as open beta testing to start on March 5.

Glassenberg considers Hunger Games Adventures to be “a natural extension” of how fans already gather to revel in their love of the series. Mega fans of the series will be excited to finally see a detailed map of Panem through the game’s 200 quests to start, courtesy of Funtactix. “When we make the hardcore fans happy we know we’ve succeeded,” Glassenberg told ISG. Hunger Games Adventures enters its open beta test on March 5.

‘The Hunger Games’ will be released in Singapore on 22 March 2012.
