RUMOUR: Sam Claflin Might Play Finnick Odair?

Following the news of Lynn Cohen officially joining “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” as Mags, who is also Finnick Odair’s mentor, undoubtedly one of the most popular characters in The Hunger Games trilogy.

Deadline noted Sam Claflin has a high possibility of being cast as Finnick Odair, the male victor of 65th Hunger Games from District 4.

Here’s the quote from Deadline:

Sam Claflin has been the favorite, but he had a problem with an option owed to another studio that presented date problems. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter stars Ben Walker, Boyd Holbrook and Tyler Hoechlin were the other competitors for that role, but it looks now like things have cleared for Claflin and that he’ll play the role. You’ve seen him in Snow White And The Huntsman and Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Please treat this as a rumour. All official “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” casting news can be found on www.CatchingFireCasting.com. If you don’t see it there, chances are it’s nothing but a rumour.

What do you think if Sam Claflin were to play Finnick Odair?

The Hunger Games, rated PG13, was released on 22 March 2012 and DVD and Blu-Ray pre-orders are now available. “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is scheduled for release on 22 November 2013 in USA.

RUMOR: Jena Malone Is Lionsgate’s Choice For Johanna Mason

The Hollywood Reporter recently reported 27 years old Jena Malone (pictured below) (Pride & Prejudice, Sucker Punch) is offered the role of Johanna Mason in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”.

The Sucker Punch actress is in talks to play snide tribute Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, a key role that will be reprised in the trilogy’s third installment,Mockingjay.

Malone has the offer and is in early negotiations for the part, according to sources. The move nixes premature reports that pegged newbie actress-model Zoe Aggeliki as the front-runner to play the ax-wielding former Hunger Games winner from District 7, who aligns with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) in their return to the arena for an all-star death match.

The role requires a mix of wit and physicality. Although Mason enjoys some of the best one-liners in the Suzanne Collins novel, her first appearance finds her stripping out of her tribute costume in an effort to make Katniss uncomfortable.

The movie is heading for a late-September start with director Francis Lawrence.

Malone, repped by Gersh and Hirsch Wallerstein, most recently appeared in History’s hit miniseries Hatfields & McCoys.

The Hollywood Reporter had also previously reported Philip Seymour Hoffman was offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”.

Till date, there is no official confirmation from Lionsgate in regards to casting rumours yet so please treat all news as rumours.

ZAP2IT: No Shortlisted Candidates For Finnick Odair Yet

We had reported yesterday regarding a rumour on Lionsgate is considering between Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund as the top three candidates for Finnick Odair.

However, ZAP2IT reports that there are currently no shortlisted candidates for Finnick Odair yet.

…sources close to the production tell Zap2it that casting has just begun for the role, and that the three All-American dudes are by no means the only ones in the running.

E! Online reports that Kitsch, Hammer and Hedlund are the names Lionsgate wants, but Zap2it’s source says nobody’s in the lead just yet considering talks only began on Tuesday (May 29). Actors are still reading for the role, and the studio is strongly considering bringing in an unknown to avoid ego clashes on set. It’s easy to understand the mix-up — someone probably got their hands on the confidential memo going around that reveals the three men are currently on the shortlist of dudes we’d love to marry in a fantasy dream world. (Honestly, any list with those three guys on it is a win-win-win situation.)

The scenes the actors are reportedly reading for the role include the sugar cube scene where Finnick first meets Katniss and the scene where he hears Annie’s scream.

And in other “Catching Fire” news, the official movie title has changed to “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” instead of plain ol’ “Catching Fire.”

What do you think of the reportedly audition scenes that actors has to read for?

RUMOUR: Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund considered as Finnick Odair?

E! Online heard from a source stating Lionsgate is considering between Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund.

The source also says that a final decision from the studio may be announced as early as this week.

However, another source says the studio may also be looking at unknowns à la Brad Pitt in Thelma & Louise.

All three actors come with star status. Hammer will next be seen playing the title role in the Lone Ranger flick opposite Johnny Depp as Tonto. Tron Legacy’s Hedlund was also a big Cannes Film Festival headline with the premiere of On The Road with Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst while Kitsch can currently be seen in Battleship.

Reps for the three did not comment.

Here’s what Lionsgate has to say on this matter:

A Lionsgate rep said, “As with the first film, we won’t be confirming, denying or commenting on any casting rumors for this title. We will announce news wide when there is official casting news to announce.”

Please consider this as a rumor unless it is confirmed by Lionsgate.

What are your thoughts on Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund if one of them will portray Finnick Odair? Or do you prefer an unknown instead?
