Jennifer Lawrence is one of the young rising stars in Hollywood to take note of and Vulture certainly didn’t miss this fact.
In fact, Vulture listed Jennifer Lawrence at No. 16 on their 100 Most Valuable Movie Stars list, stating Jennifer Lawrence as a bombshell whom everyone will be able to relate to.
Jennifer Lawrence introduced herself to critics and indie audiences when she won an Oscar nomination for her role in the acclaimed 2010 drama Winter’s Bone, but it took the rest of America a little longer to learn her name: That red Calvin Klein dress she wore to the Oscars helped a little, and then getting cast as Katniss Everdeen in the massively popular Hunger Games franchise did the rest. The first movie in the series grossed half a billion worldwide and cemented Lawrence’s ability to anchor both popcorn flicks and art house fare (and to imbue each with her strengths in the other), a dual talent that results in a high overall studio value.
Equally at home with the understated drama of Winter’s Bone as she is inhabiting an electric blue, semi-nude mutant Mystique in X-Men: First Class, she’s got significant audience recognition from winning visits to late-night talk shows and frequent appearances in mass-appeal glossy magazines. She’s also got a great likeability score, thanks to both her sex appeal and her chilled-out custodial duties as the head of the Hunger Games franchise. With a slew of high-profile roles, including sequels to both the X-Men and Hunger Games franchises in Lawrence’s near future, the odds will almost certainly be forever in her favor.
Shortly after InCinemas listed ‘The Hunger Games’ in their “10 Must Watch Movies In 2012” list, they have came out with a post which listed 5 things they believe you must know about ‘The Hunger Games’.
1. The Games as Reality TV Show
Contrary to popular belief, this film was not inspired by the controversial and violent Japanese film BATTLE ROYALE (2000), directed by Kinji Fukasaku. Yes, it may have a similar -themed plot, but the novel that the film was adapted from was written by author Suzanne Collins, who had no knowledge of Fukasaku’s film prior to writing the novel. She was inspired to write something after an idea sparked in her mind when switching channels continuously between a reality TV variety show, and news showing footage from the Iraq War.
2. The Tessera Process
In case you are wondering, yes, even children are eligible to participate in the cruel games. Many of them are forced by their plight to put their names into the “draw” in order to receive food. This is known as the Tessera process. Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence), the lead character, has put her name into the “draw” many times since she turned 12 to feed her poor family. However, the entries into the “draw” are cumulative. This means with each passing year, she is more and more likely to be selected.
