Kinokuniya Promotes “The Hunger Games” In A Major Way

While we had previously reported about “The Hunger Games” teaser poster board spotted in Kinokuniya and also “The Hunger Games” movie tie-in promotion in Kinokuniya, that is not all.

A trip to both Bugis Junction and Ngee Ann City’s Kinokuniya outlets showed they are all geared up for “The Hunger Games” release.

The main highlights area near the entrance for Bugis Junction’s Kinokuniya is now plastered with huge “The Hunger Games” final poster featuring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen. Besides that, UK adult and children edition of “The Hunger Games” trilogy along with “The Hunger Games” movie tie-in edition are also on display.

A trip to Ngee Ann City’s Kinokuniya showed promotions for “The Hunger Games” on an even grander scale due to the larger area of free space near the entrance available.

Underneath the large “The Hunger Games” final poster featuring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, the tables are stocked with the “The Hunger Games” related books as follows:

  • UK children edition of “The Hunger Games” trilogy
  • UK adult edition of “The Hunger Games” trilogy
  • US hardcover “The Hunger Games” trilogy box set
  • US paperback “The Hunger Games” trilogy box set
  • UK children paperback “The Hunger Games” trilogy box set
  • Taiwan “The Hunger Games” trilogy box set
  • Japanese edition of “The Hunger Games”
  • US “The Hunger Games – Collector’s Edition”
  • “The Hunger Games” movie tie-in edition
  • “The Hunger Games : The Official Illustrated Movie Companion”
  • “The Hunger Games : Tribute Guide”, “Unofficial Hunger Games Companion”
  • “The Girl Who Was On Fire”
  • “The Hunger Games and Philosophy: A Critique of Pure Treason”
  • “Stars in the Arena : Meet the Hotties of the Hunger Games, Unauthorized Biographies”
  • “The Hunger Pains : A Parody” and “The Hunger Games”

There is a TV placed there framed with another picture of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, holding a bow and arrow. The TV was also playing “The Hunger Games” trailers on loop.

I think this is certainly a great chance for more people to get to know about “The Hunger Games”, considering they might be curious to know more after watching the trailers playing on the TV. Furthermore, it’s certainly hard to miss this huge “The Hunger Games” display when you are walking past or into Kinokuniya!

The Hunger Games Collector’s Edition Now In Stock In Kinokuniya Ngee Ann City Outlet

Lots of “The Hunger Games” trilogy related books have been scheduled to be released lately. This of course includes “The Hunger Games Collector’s Edition” which was released on 1st November 2011. However, it wasn’t spotted in local bookstores, at least not that Hunger Games Singapore is known of.

However, I went to Kinokuniya outlet in Ngee Ann City today, to my delight, around 40 copies or so of “The Hunger Games Collector’s Edition” were displayed on the shelf and it’s priced at S$44.99 each.

Previously, Hunger Games Singapore have also mentioned that bookstores such as Times and Kinokuniya are starting to promote “The Hunger Games” with boards of the teaser poster on display.

I did stay around at Kinokuniya at Ngee Ann City to observe the crowds and it appears that the board can be said to be effective in attracting people to pick up “The Hunger Games” novel to at least read the summary of the story on the back of the book. Quite a couple did put the novel into their cart and I hope they will enjoy the story as much as we did. Most of these people were parents who were shopping for books with their children who are tweens or teens. I had overheard a mother asking his 12 years oldish son if the novel would be too easy for him while flipping through it. In my opinion, I believe the content of the book touches on aspects that even adults will enjoy and perhaps take a little time to reflect on our current society.

Personally speaking, I would like to say that Lionsgate has done well in terms when designing that teaser poster. It didn’t deviate from the original novel cover, is striking and yet it’s able to appeal to unisex. Not to forget the meaning behind the Mockingjay pin and also it being on fire which is a cool and symbolic touch. By the way, I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing for the teaser poster to deviate from the cover of the novel. To me, it would simply be easier for a person to connect it to the books.

Currently, Hunger Games Singapore is not sure if other bookstores have starting selling “The Hunger Games Collector’s Edition” or if other bookstores besides Kinokuniya and Times have started promoting “The Hunger Games” too. Oddly, ‘The Hunger Games’ novels aren’t placed below it but on another shelf near the board.

It is currently unsure if this is the same for other Kinokuniya outlets and bookstores.
