Blue Hair and Fake Noses: Stanley Tucci Talks About Playing Caesar Flickerman
In an interview with MTV, where Stanley Tucci sits down with his fellow cast mates, Zachary Quinto and Penn Badgley, promoting his newly released movie, ‘Margin Call’.
In this interview, MTV took the opportunity to ask Stanley Tucci about him playing Caesar Flickerman in ‘The Hunger Games’.
“Absolutely it [stays true]. Blue hair. Very bizarre,” the actor said while promoting his upcoming drama about the mortgage crisis “Margin Call.”
Earlier this year, Tucci was in England shooting “Jack the Giant Killer” when he began to map out his Flickerman look. “We had wigs made there,” he said. “I had some noses made, which we ended up not using and teeth and a whole bunch of different things. When I got to North Carolina [to shoot ‘Hunger Games’], we played around for about seven hours and we started shooting the next day. I was only there for about a week, but it was fantastic.”
One of the scenes he shot was the pre-Games interviews with Lawrence’s Katniss and Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta Mellark, who confesses his love for Katniss during the chat. Both Lawrence and Hutcherson, Tucci said, pulled off the pivotal scene with an aplomb that defied their years.
“She was amazing,” he said. “They were all amazing. She’s just so good and so mature at such a young age. It was really fun. Really fun. And Gary, he’s great.”
Many thanks to YouTube user vero244a for uploading the interview so international fans like us are able to watch the interview too.
Besides that, in an recent interview with Vanity Fair, Stanley Tucci also commented on Caesar Flickerman as a “bizarrely dressed and coiffed” character.
So, what characters haven’t you covered yet—what’s next?
Well, it was fun this year doing Jack the Giant Killer, playing the awful British baddie, and I played a very flamboyant German art dealer in Gambit, and then I played the bizarrely dressed and coiffed talk-show host in Hunger Games. So it was nice to do those three different, very distinctive characters. I have stuff I’ve written and a couple of movies I want to direct. Hopefully I’ll be doing one with Tina Fey and Meryl Streep.
